The view from the Window!

I don't know if I'm losing it, or if Windows has really made life harder! I think it's the latter.

So we go on this long road trip, and all the photos from the trip are on my XP machine. I just bought a machine for my dad (Vista), and want to copy all the photos over - so I've been trying to share a folder between my XP and his new Vista machine. Ugh! I still haven't been able to figure this one out.

I figured out some of the things listed in this article myself, but I guess I've a long way to go, for my "shared" folders on both machines are quite invisible. I eventually got the XP machine to show up in my network map!

Now, if only the countries on the map could talk to each other, we'd all be friends!

My time on Sundays!

Almost every Sunday, when I take my boys to their music classes, I walk over to the nearby Circuit City store and browse (wander is more like it)! My family is amazed (actually quite disgusted with the waste of time) that I can do this week after week, but my response is that this is "MY time" on Sundays.

I know many of the store's TVs, speakers, laptops and camcorders well (they wink or beep at me when I pass by), and I think the Sunday salesfolk know me well (and don't like me since I'm usually not buying)!

Today, with the announcement of their liquidation, I'm wondering what I'll do during "MY hour" on Sundays!

Egad! Maybe I'll have to read a novel at the fountain!

No texting while driving!

In July 2008, hands-free was mandated as the legal way to engage with a cell phone in a car, and I made the case that it was a worthwhile law since human brains aren't really good at multitasking.

I assumed then that it meant that texting was forbidden while driving - ha ha! Today, as I drove in to work, I saw an electronic billboard on Highway 85 saying "No texting while driving come Jan 1" - It sounded like a joke to me, until I read about the new law! I guess people need to be told everything explicitly, like in kindergarten!

So - maybe we should pass some more laws, and they will actually be followed:

"No reading the newspaper while driving"
"No applying mascara using the rear-view mirror while driving"
"No watching movies with the kids while driving" - "Dolby surround" has a new meaning when you have 2 screens delivering the audio, one conveniently located next to the rear-view mirror ;-)

While we're at it, here's some more -
"No taking huge bonus as CEO when your company is going bankrupt"
"No killing people because they belong to a different religion"
